Lori James-Townes has more than 20 years of clinical practice, leadership, and management experience. Professor James-Townes joined Towson University in 2017. Before joining the Towson family, Lori was director of social work, leadership, and program development at the Maryland Office of Public Defender, which has more than 800 employees. Lori is also president of Expand-Now, speaking nationally and internationally on issues of mitigation, storytelling, leadership, team building, implicit bias in the criminal justice system, secondary trauma, and other clinical areas. Lori has held various leadership positions on national organizations and boards of directors; has been appointed to serve as conference chair for several national conferences and training programs; and also serves as a faculty member for the following national and regional leadership trainings: Gideon’s Promise, National Legal Aid & Defender Association, Administrative Offices of the Courts (Training Branch), YMCA of Central Maryland, and The National Association of Public Defenders.
