Ms. Pederson is an attorney with extensive experience in both nonprofit management and governance as well as the delivery of client-centered indigent defense services. She began her legal career as a public defender, eventually supervising 10 attorneys in two rural public defender offices while handling her own caseload. Most recently, she was general counsel and then the chief operating officer for the Association of Village Council Presidents (AVCP). AVCP is a tribal consortium and nonprofit employing more than 400 people that provides quasi-governmental services to 56 Tribes in 48 remote villages spread across an area the size of New York State. Ms. Pederson sits on the Alaska Legal Services Corporation board as well as the board of a local nonprofit theater group. She lives in Bethel, AK, with her spouse and two children, where she enjoys berry-picking, cooking, and coaching middle-school cross country running.
