Michael is the Director of Data and Policy Analysis for the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation (MLAC), a position he has held since December 2016. He is part of the MLAC team charged with administering over $8 million in VOCA funds designated for delivering statewide civil legal services to victims of crime. His focus on this project is on grant development, data collection and reporting, client intake, advocate and intake staffing, grant compliance and overall service delivery. Since his admission to the bar in 1985, he worked at legal aid programs in northeastern Massachusetts beginning as a staff attorney and ending as the Associate Director of Northeast Legal Aid. During his years as a litigator, Michael was involved in significant public benefits, foreclosure prevention, and family law litigation. His legal aid management career includes developing and implementing projects such as regional intake reform, administration and development reform, program mergers, technology upgrades, and strategic planning.
