Legal services can be forces of social change. In order to meet the demands of our time, we may need new sources of funding and models for delivery of services. Three new projects have emerged in Los Angeles County to address the region's growing problem of homelessness, justice-involved individuals, and patients receiving treatment in the county's health system. These three projects are supported by funding from federal and local governments and work in collaboration with non-attorneys, including community health workers, doctors, community-based organizations, and social workers. This panel discussion, led by the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, will share funding strategies that created these projects, the impact these projects are making in some of the most diverse communities in the country, and challenges to operating and sustaining this work.
